(2.22) Sign of the Cross as a Blessing
Upon entering the church, we dip our fingers in the holy water and make the Sign of the Cross as a blessing upon our self. As it is true in baptism, we are reaffirming our bond with Christ to obey his commandments “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Mt 28:19).
If we do a Sign of the Cross with our palm facing others, we are blessing them with the gift of grace that we received at baptism when we were made disciples of Christ.
