(2.23) Sign of the Cross as The Symbol of Salvation

It is our natural instinct to do the Sign of the Cross in almost everything that we do, especially in time of danger, because it is a symbol of the Sacrifice of Jesus and his victory over death. By this sign, we are distinguishing ourselves away from sinners and we are granted protection as written in Ezek 9:4-5 when God ordered his angel:

“Go through the city, through Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of those who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.” To the others he said in my hearing, “Pass through the city after him, and kill; your eye shall not spare, and you shall show no pity.”

The Sign of the Cross is again implied in Revelations when John saw:

"four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth so that no wind could blow on earth or sea or against any tree" (Rev 7:1).

And with the Sign of God that the Righteous and those worthy of Salvation will be distinguished as an angel instructed the four angels:

“Do not damage the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have marked the servants of our God with a seal on their foreheads" (Rev 7:3).
